Ambassador and Mrs. McMullen visited Keren and its surrounding areas from March 16–18, 2008. During the visit, the Ambassador was cordially received by the Mayor’s office, and visited Keren’s deaf school, orthopedic factory, the historic cemeteries and camel market, and Daughters of Saint Anne’s Kindergarten and sewing school. The Daughters of St. Anne’s were beneficiaries of U.S. Embassy grants in 2007 to provide furniture for the kindergarten and manuals for the sewing school students. On March 17, Ambassador and Mrs. McMullen opened the first children’s film show at the American Corner and donated books to the children participating in the event and to Keren’s public library.
The American Corner is collocated with Keren’s public library. Starting in March 2008, U.S. films will be shown for children at 03:00 p.m. every Saturday.
