Massawa Deputy Mayor Yosef Habtemariam Joins Ambassador and Mrs. McMullen in distributing U.S. books to local children |
U.S. Ambassador Ronald K. McMullen and his family recently enjoyed the sights and sounds of the port city of Massawa on his first trip to the Red Sea coast. Massawa’s Mayor welcomed the Ambassador and facilitated a fascinating visit to include tours of the Massawa Museum, the Free Zone, and various sites of local and historic interest. During their visit, Ambassador and Mrs. McMullen provided books to local children and donated new audio-visual equipment to the U.S.-sponsored American Corner. This equipment, a gift from the American people, will allow visitors to enjoy English language films. The American Corner is located in the Massawa Public Library complex and is open to the general public. Regular American Corner services include free internet and access to a variety of information resources, to include reference materials and current magazines. The visit was from January 8-10, 2008.
