The Role of Biotechnology in Promoting Agricultural Production & Attaining Food Security

Dr. Tadesse says Biotechnology is crucial to Developing Countries

On August 28, 2008, Dr. Tadesse Mehari from the University of Asmara presented an engaging speech regarding the role of Biotechnology in food production. The presentation included both sides of this debate. Dr. Mehari discussed the possibility of biotechnology assisting those in developing countries by increasing crop production. Dr. Mehari also discussed the precautions that should be taken with biotechnology.

The audience was very intrigued and asked poignant questions regarding this controversial topic.

Over 250 participants came to the presentation. The event was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section in partnership with the American Club Alumni Association.
