On March 6, the Public Affairs staff of Asmara, Eritrea, hosted a “Read Across America” Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration at the American Center Auditorium. Children who frequently visit the center for computer and reading groups were among the participants.
Over 300 children came in two shifts to the Center. United States Ambassador to Eritrea, Ronald McMullen and his wife Jane McMullen, started the event with an enthusiastic reading of “The Cat and the Hat”. Embassy officer Barbara Gregory and guest reader Asmeret Yemane read other Dr. Seuss favorites. The children were also able to decorate a hat from “The Cat and the Hat” as well as enjoy traditional birthday treats. A fun time was had by all and the Public Affairs Staff looks forward to more great events for children and adults throughout the year.
