April is Earth Day Month

The Department of State is celebrating this year’s Earth Day Month by sponsoring an international art competition for youth in the 10-15 year age category, based on the theme, “what is important to you about our environment?” The purpose of this effort is to encourage individual awareness of, and engagement in, environmental issues on a personal level.

The art currently on display at the Eritro-German Auditorium is the result of a competition announced by the U.S. Department of State to celebrate International Earth Day.

These works were submitted by children, age 10-15, from various schools in Asmara.

This competition has resulted in three finalists whose work will be sent to Washington, D.C., where they will be competed against works from other countries.

The final prize winners in each of three age categories (10-11; 12-13; 14-15) will be announced at the end of the month.

The Honorable Scott H. DeLisi, U.S. Ambassador to Eritrea, and Ato Berhane Adonai, Asmara Artist, will announce the prize winners for the students. The center is pleased to invite everyone to the winners' announcement on Wednesday April 18, 2007, at 6:00 P.M. at the Eritro-German building Auditorium.
