International Earth Day Finalists Announcement

The U.S. Embassy in Asmara, through its Public Affairs Section, sponsored an International Earth Day Art Contest for Children aged 10-15. The purpose of the contest is to encourage individual awareness of and engagement in environmental issues on a personal level. 04/16/07

The Public Affairs Section received almost 100 submissions which have been categorized by age groups: 10-11; 12-13; and 14-15. Well known Asmara artist, Berhane Adonai selected the three finalists whose submissions were sent to Washington D.C. for the Global competition. Five other art works were chosen by popular vote of Eritrean and international visitors to the U.S. Embassy’s American Center.

The announcement for the finalists was held on Wednesday April 18, 2007 at 6:00 pm, at the Eritro-German auditorium, where the Honorable Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi awarded prizes to the following:

For peoples choice award:

1st Daniel Teclemariam - age 11 (Look art)
2nd Claire McCarthy - age 12 (Look art)
3rd Natnael Habtay - age 14 (Look art)
4th Samuel Giorgio - age 13 (Look art)
5th Abel Berhane - age 13 (Look art)

For the Three Finalists:

Merhawi Tsegay - from the 10-11 age group (Look art)
Solomon Yonas - from the 12-13 age group (Look art)
Amanuel G/kiristos - from the 14-15 age group (Look art)
