The U.S. Embassy in Asmara held an exciting and informative Election Day Celebration at the Eritro-German Center Auditorium. Beginning at 6:00 A.M. guests arrived to a festive room filled to capacity with election paraphernalia and four television screens broadcasting election news and commentary. Balloons, confetti, flags, maps, and hats added to the festive mood of the election event. Biographical information regarding the candidates, books, and educational pamphlets were available to guests.
The Consular Officer provided up to the minute information regarding the Electoral College. He also marked and tallied the numbers on the map of the United States. American employees from the Embassy were available for questions and discussions regarding the election process.
Guests were pleased to learn about the election process and democracy and were excited to witness this historic election.
