Warden Message

U.S. EMBASSY ASMARA
July 20, 2007

Beginning on Monday, August 27, 2007, the Consular Section of the United States Embassy in Asmara will begin accepting appointments for American Citizen Services (ACS) online.  As of this date, walk-in services will no longer be available.  Beginning on Monday, August 20, 2007, you can begin scheduling appointments online.  You will find the link on the American Citizens Services menu of the Embassy’s website, http://eritrea.usembassy.gov/, only on and after August 20.

This new service will allow you to view dates and times available for different types of ACS services.  You will be able to choose from:

  • Adding extra pages to a U.S. Passport.
  • Other Passport services - new passport applications and passport renewals
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) services - registering the birth of U.S. citizens born in Eritrea.
  • Notarial and Other services - notarizing or authenticating documents, picking up forms or federal benefit checks, and for speaking to the Consular Staff about other issues such as taxes, voting, etc.

For routine issues or questions, you can email the consular section at consularasmara@state.gov.  We usually reply to inquiries within one business day.

Please note that multiple services of the same type for the same family (parents and children) constitute a single appointment.  For example, if a mother, father, and two children want to renew passports at the same time, this would be only a single appointment.

This message will also be posted on our website http://eritrea.usembassy.gov/ and at the Consular entrance to the U.S. Embassy.

As we roll out this new system, we would appreciate your feedback when you arrive for your appointment.  Please let us know how the system worked for you, how easy it was to use, and if you were able to receive your appointment within a timely manner.  This will help us to make the proper adjustments.

The Consular section remains closed to all visa services.  If and when we reopen a Warden Message will be sent and a message posted on our website at http://eritrea.usembassy.gov/.

The Consular Section remains open for emergency services to U.S. citizens.  If you have an emergency that requires immediate attention, you can contact the Embassy at 12-00-04 and ask to speak to the duty officer.

Brian Shelbourn
Vice Consul
U.S. Embassy Asmara
