Grants on Self-Help Program to Improve Community Lives

Grantees with the Ambassador and Self Help Coordinator

Through the Ambassador’s Special Self Help program, the United States Embassy in Asmara donated USD 50,000 for health facilities, community library and teaching activities.

On the occasion of the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help program ceremony held recently, Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi awarded funding to four community organizations to:

• Provide equipment to a health station in Hazega; 
• Assist a community library in Asmara to improve available services for the hearing impaired;
• Assist a community library in Asmara in enhancing its new youth-based community center; and 
• Provide resources for a program teaching women to make a living through sewing.

The purpose of the Ambassador’s Special Self Help Program for Africa is to reach out to communities that have a vision of a project which would enhance the lives of their community and only require the finances to make those dreams come true.

The United States Embassy commends the recipient organizations on their continued service to their communities.
