Registration
U.S. citizens planning to visit or reside in Eritrea should always register with the Embassy in Asmara. Registration will make your presence and whereabouts known in case it is necessary to contact you in an emergency. In accordance with the Privacy Act, information on your welfare and whereabouts may not be released without your express authorization.
The most convenient way to register is by using the online American Citizens Registration Form, https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/. You may also visit the Embassy in person to complete a registration card. If you choose to appear in person, please come between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday and present your current U.S. passport as well as those of your family members.
If you have already registered and need to update your information, you may call the U.S. Embassy at 12-00-04. All new registrants, however, must register either online or in person.
Please remind your American citizen friends and relatives in Eritrea of the importance of registering at the Embassy and encourage them to do so.
Voting Information for the 2008 Primary and General Elections
This is a reminder that in just three months we will be entering the U. S. presidential and state primary season. Five primaries are currently slated for January, another 20 are scheduled for February, and the rest take place from early March through early October. Registration for the first primary (the District of Columbia) closes December 10, 2007. We encourage you to act now so that your opinion is heard – not only in the November 2008 presidential and general elections, but also in the presidential primary and state primary elections! The official U.S. Government website for overseas absentee voting assistance is the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website www.fvap.gov.
Non-partisan information about candidates, their voting records, and their positions on issues is widely available and easy to obtain via the Internet. Use the links appearing on the FVAP website at http://www.fvap.gov/links/otherlinks.html , read your hometown newspaper on-line, or search the Internet to locate articles and information.
The Voting Assistance Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Asmara is also always available to answer questions about absentee voting. To contact the Voting Assistance Officer, call 12-00-04 or send an e-mail to consularasmara@state.gov.
