The Deputy Chief of the Mission of U.S. Embassy in Asmara, Ms Jennifer McIntyre welcomed the viewers and officially opened the exhibition at a ribbon-cutting ceremony which was attended by about 150 viewers. She called the event a special day, made possible by the public diplomacy initiatives of the US Embassy.

The exhibition has showcased the efforts of six very talented women artists of Asmara. Ms McIntyre said that such an exhibition will further public expressions of Eritrean culture and extend good relations between the United States and Eritrea.  She congratulated all the artists for their excellent work.

Ms. Mibrak, the group’s coordinator, said “Six of us are bounded by our profession, passion, and appreciation of art. We gathered together to provide this beautiful combination. As individual we have displayed paintings, sculpture, ceramics, batiks, and handcrafts. We titled our exhibition ‘Coral’ just like the colors of coral – different in technique, style, and content, but one in art.” In her speech she expressed gratitude for the sponsorship of the Embassy of the United States, which provided both financial and moral support. In her own words, “Without them, this exhibition would not have been accomplished as smoothly as it is now.”
